چکیده
Abstract Objective Procalcitonin (PCT) has received much attention as a serum marker for bacterial infection. Elevated PCT is occasionally seen in severe trauma, heatstroke, and neoplastic diseases, including lung cancer with neuroendocrine component. Results In the present study, we evaluated expression specimen of pulmonary tumors, comparing large cell carcinoma (LCNEC), carcinoid, small (SCLC). Pathological specimens 10 LCNEC, 4 7 SCLC cases were immunochemical staining PCT. Clinical characteristics levels C-reactive protein also evaluated. We observed positive 5 (50%) LCNEC 2 carcinoid that surgically resected. Whereas not elevated patients PCT-positive two out three high tumor had reflected disease progression. SCLC, was detected or serum. This first immunohistochemical study specimens. concluded that, may be indicative activity serve biomarker.

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a neuroendocrine tumor comprising a subgroup of large cell carcinoma and is a type of lung cancer showing a neuroendocrine characteristic similar to that of small cell lung carcinoma In our institution, we started to diagnose LCNEC by immunostaining in 2002, and we herein report 9 patients diagnosed with LCNEC from January 2002 to May 2008. The ave...

PURPOSE Heat shock protein (Hsp)27 is overexpressed in a range of human cancers and is implicated in tumor cell proliferation, differentiation, invasion, metastasis, and survival. The aim of the present study was to determine the prognostic significance of Hsp27 expression in small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC). METHODS Surgically resected SCLCs (N...
متن کاملGenomic Profiling of Large-Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Lung.
PURPOSE Although large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the lung shares many clinical characteristics with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), little is known about its molecular features. We analyzed lung LCNECs to identify biologically relevant genomic alterations. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN We performed targeted capture sequencing of all the coding exons of 244 cancer-related genes on 78 LCNEC...
متن کاملCyclin D1 Expression in Patients with Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background & Objective: Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is considered to be one of the most common cancers of the head and neck, accounting for roughly 90% of all malignant tumors of the larynx. To have a timely diagnosis for a better and practical therapy, molecular markers have to be investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the expression of Cyclin D1 (CD...
متن کاملTreatment options for patients with large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung
Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the lung is categorized as a variant of large cell carcinomas, and LCNEC tumors display biological behaviors resembling those of small cell lung carcinomas and features of high-grade neuroendocrine tumors. Because patients with LCNEC have a poor prognosis, surgery alone is not sufficient. Multimodality therapies, including adjuvant chemotherapy, ap...
